Introducing Ourselves

My name is Jim Aune (which rhymes with "brawny" or "scrawny," depending on my level of self-esteem on any given day).  I currently am Professor of Communication at Texas A&M University, where I teach courses in the history of rhetoric and the First Amendment.  I am the author or editor of four books, including Rhetoric and Marxism (1994), Selling the Free Market (2001), Civil Rights Rhetoric and the American Presidency (2005), and The Prospect of Presidential Rhetoric (2008).  I am currently working on two book projects:  an introduction to legal rhetoric and a study of narrative and ideology in academic and novelistic accounts of the 1929 Gastonia textile strike.  I am married to Miriam Aune, and we have two children (both autistic), Nick (19) and Daniel (17).  I regularly blog for the Rhetoric Society of America blog, The Blogora, at:  http://rsa.cwrl.utexas.edu
